Electrical and Computer Engineering

The University of Central Florida's Electrical and Computer Engineering department is recruiting two highly motivated PhD students to join the research group of Assistant Professor Saikat Dey, starting in Spring or Fall 2026. The group focuses on high-performance power electronics for space power systems, transportation electrification, and renewable grid integration. Research topics include miniaturized circuit topology and modulation optimization for WBG-based isolated power converter systems, AI applications in power electronics control, parameter estimation, health monitoring, and EMI/EMC modeling and filtering techniques. Applicants should have a strong technical foundation, curiosity, and self-motivation, with an MS (preferred) or BS in EE/ECE, solid knowledge in power electronics, control systems, and AI/ML techniques, and a strong academic record (GPA, GRE Quantitative >165, TOEFL). Hands-on experience in building and testing electronic hardware, familiarity with MATLAB/Python, Simulink, PLECS, ANSYS schematic/PCB design tools, and microcontroller coding are required. Research publications in relevant fields are a plus. These positions are fully funded, covering stipend and tuition.
