PhD Position in Nutrition and Exercise Science at South Dakota State University (School of Health and Human Sciences) with Assistant Professor Samitinjaya Dhakal . The lab studies how dietary patterns influence cognitive decline through a multi-omics approach. Research themes include metabolomics , microbiome analysis (oral and gut), personalized dietary strategies for brain health and prevention of cognitive decline, blood-based biomarkers using advanced assay techniques, and machine learning for high-dimensional omics data and predictive signatures. This opening is for one more highly motivated PhD student to start in Summer or Fall 2026 . The ideal candidate has a master's degree in a health- or science-related field (e.g., nutrition, dietetics, exercise physiology, public health), a strong interest in combining wet-lab and dry-lab computational techniques, and prior experience or strong motivation to learn Python and R . Because the work involves clinical studies, the PI is looking for someone comfortable working with human participants and demonstrating empathy and professional communication skills.
