PhD Positions in Physics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, and Green Energy at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST)

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) announces PhD admissions for June 2026 in the Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, with research opportunities in the Green Energy Materials (GEM) Laboratory led by Prof. Sarpangala Venkataprasad Bhat. The group focuses on advanced materials and devices, energy technology, computation and machine learning, high energy physics, optics and photonics, semiconductor and quantum technology, atmospheric sciences, and spintronics. Specific research areas include solution-processed materials/thin films, energy/device applications, and ISRO-funded projects on CIGS thin films for flexible solar cells. Eligibility requires a first class Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Nanotechnology, with a minimum of 55% or Grade B in the UGC 7-point scale. Candidates with CSIR-JRF, GATE, UGC, INSPIRE, or other equivalent fellowships are preferred. Relaxation of 5% marks is available for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled candidates. Both full-time and part-time PhD categories are offered, with a minimum duration of 3 years and maximum of 5 years for full-time, and up to 6 years for part-time. Women and persons with disabilities may receive additional duration and leave benefits. Funding includes a university fellowship for up to 3 years: Rs. 37,000/month for NET/GATE qualified candidates and Rs. 31,000/month for other full-time scholars. The QIP scheme offers Rs. 15,000/month for 3 years plus up to Rs. 3 lakhs for a semester at a foreign university. ISRO-funded projects and additional fellowships (CSIR-JRF, GATE, UGC, INSPIRE) are available. Semester fees are Rs. 30,000 initially and Rs. 15,000 subsequently. Applicants should submit their application online and email details to Prof. Bhat at [email protected] before April 30, 2026. Department-level entrance and interview will be held on May 16, 2026.
