The University of Graz invites applications for a University Assistant with Doctorate (Postdoctoral Researcher) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. This full-time, temporary position (6 years) offers an annual gross salary of at least €70,200.20, with the possibility of overpayment based on qualifications and experience. The role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in molecular and cell biology, particularly those interested in the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases resulting from metabolic dysfunction and sex-specific aspects. As a University Assistant, you will conduct autonomous research and publication activities, focusing on molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. You will develop, optimize, and apply experimental protocols and model systems, including epigenomics, single cell genomics, transcriptomics, functional genomics, metabolomics, in vivo analysis, and animal models. The position involves participation in existing and new research projects, conceptualizing and implementing independent research, and contributing to third-party funding acquisition. You will present and discuss findings at internal and external meetings and conferences. Teaching responsibilities include autonomous delivery of courses and examinations in Pharmacology and Toxicology, as well as supervision and training of students and new personnel. Organizational and administrative tasks, along with evaluation measures, are also part of the role. University of Graz is offering a University assistant without doctorate (m/f/d) position in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Graz, Austria. This is a PhD-opening role with a contract length of 4 years , starting on 2026-10-01 . The post is designed for a candidate who will write a dissertation while contributing to cutting-edge research on the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases . The project uses human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived 2D and 3D cardiovascular models and focuses on gene regulation , including gene expression and epigenetic analysis. Research tasks include planning, performing, and evaluating scientific experiments; optimizing and troubleshooting protocols; differentiation of stem cells into cardiac cell types such as cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells ; development of 3D functional models and organoids ; RNA-seq and epigenetic analyses (including bulk and single-cell approaches); immunostaining ; microscopy; and image analysis. The successful candidate will also present results at meetings and conferences, publish in scientific journals, teach courses, supervise BSc and MSc students, and contribute to organizational and administrative tasks. Eligibility highlights: a completed diploma or master’s degree in life sciences or natural sciences; knowledge of cardiovascular disease, hiPSC differentiation, cell culture, and/or gene regulation; practical experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile stem cell/hiPSC work; experience with 2D/3D cell culture models; experience with immunostaining, microscopy, and image analysis; and strong English skills. Experience with ATAC-seq, CUT&Tag/RUN, and bioinformatics/R is desirable. Funding and conditions: the position offers an annual gross salary of at least €52,865.40 for a full-time appointment, with 30 hours per week and possible overpayment depending on qualification and experience.
