Postdoctoral Position in Spin-Transfer Torque and All-Optical Switching in Ultrafast Spintronic Devices

Postdoctoral position in ultrafast spintronics at Institut Jean Lamour, Universite de Lorraine (Nancy, France) A 24-month postdoctoral opening is available in the area of spintronics , ultrafast magnetism , and all-optical switching . The project is hosted at Institut Jean Lamour (IJL), Universite de Lorraine , in close collaboration with Prof. Shunsuke Fukami at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. The researcher will be based in Nancy with regular research stays in Japan. The research topic focuses on combining electrical angular-momentum transfer mechanisms such as spin-transfer torque and spin-orbit torque with femtosecond all-optical switching in engineered magnetic heterostructures and nanodevices. The work sits at the interface of magnetic materials , ultrafast optics , thin-film growth , nanofabrication , and spintronic device physics . Eligible candidates should have a PhD in physics, materials science, nanophysics, spintronics, or a related field. Strong experience in one or more of the following is preferred: all-optical switching, ultrafast magnetism, femtosecond laser experiments, spin-transfer torque, spin-orbit torque, magnetic tunnel junctions, nanodevices, or electrical transport. Additional experience with magnetic thin films, nanofabrication, magnetic characterization, micromagnetic modelling, or data analysis will be highly valued. This is a postdoctoral research appointment ; the post does not mention a stipend amount or specific salary, but it is a 24-month funded position. The expected start date is September 2026 , or as soon as possible thereafter.
