Silvia Monticelli

A PhD position is available in the Molecular Immunology group at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) Bellinzona, Switzerland, led by Silvia Monticelli. The research focuses on understanding how genetic risk alleles influence T cell function, with a particular emphasis on autoimmune diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease. The project leverages genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to link disease-associated genetic variants to biological functions and treatment responses. The group is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), ensuring research funding and resources. Applicants should have a Master's degree in biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline, and demonstrate interest or experience in immunology, genetics, or molecular biology. The IRB offers a collaborative and dynamic research environment. Interested candidates should review the application instructions via the provided link and prepare relevant documents such as a CV and motivation letter. For further information, candidates may contact the group leader. The application deadline is not specified in the announcement.

The Molecular Immunology Laboratory at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), Bellinzona, Switzerland, is recruiting a PhD student to investigate how genetic risk alleles influence T lymphocyte functions and contribute to autoimmunity. Led by Professor Silvia Monticelli, the lab focuses on molecular mechanisms regulating immune-cell differentiation and function, with a strong emphasis on human T cells and genetic variation. The research involves pre-clinical models, primary T-cell cultures, CRISPR-based perturbations, functional assays, molecular biology, and biochemistry. The IRB provides a dynamic, international environment with state-of-the-art facilities, scientific events, and strong mentorship. PhD candidates will be enrolled in the program of USI Università della Svizzera italiana and benefit from funding and conditions aligned with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Immunology, Molecular/Cell Biology, or a related field, be fluent in English, and show curiosity, initiative, and independence. Bioinformatics skills are an asset but not mandatory. Interested candidates should send a single PDF (motivation letter, CV with grades, transcripts, and two references) to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
