PhD student in Computer and Systems Sciences, with focus on Machine Learning
Stockholm University’s Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) is offering a PhD position in Computer and Systems Sciences with a focus on Machine Learning. The position sits within an internationally active research and educational environment at the Stockholm University campus in Kista, north of central Stockholm.
The project,
Machine Learning – Algorithms and Theoretical Foundations
, is centered on developing novel algorithms and theory for modern machine learning. The research emphasis includes reinforcement learning, bandit methods, multi-agent systems, efficient exploration, learning under uncertainty, online decision-making, and scalable AI systems. There is also scope to work on applications of modern AI in healthcare, autonomous systems, cyber-physical systems, and foundation models such as large language models.
The project can be shaped around the selected candidate’s background and interests, with possible directions in algorithm design, mathematical analysis, or applied machine learning. The advertised work welcomes applicants from machine learning, computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, and related fields, and draws on methods from optimization, probability, statistics, and algorithmic decision-making.

English proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 is required.
