Postdoctoral Positions in Human-Machine-AI Autonomy and Nonlinear Stochastic Control Theory

Multiple fully funded postdoctoral positions are available in the area of Resilient Human-Machine-AI Autonomy, with a focus on nonlinear and stochastic control theory. The positions are part of a new government-sponsored, multi-university project led by Prof. SooJean Han (KAIST, School of Electrical Engineering) and Prof. Hiroyasu Tsukamoto (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Department of Aerospace Engineering). Research topics include human-machine-AI autonomy, large language models (LLMs), vision-language models (VLAMs), and advanced control theory. The selected postdocs will be jointly appointed by KAIST and UIUC, with the primary work location in Korea. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field and reside in Korea during the appointment. Candidates from related fields are encouraged to apply, especially those with experience in AI, robotics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or control theory. The positions are fully funded, with salary and benefits following both institutions’ standards and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. To apply, candidates should email their CV and a short summary of research experience and interests to Prof. SooJean Han ([email protected]) and Prof. Hiroyasu Tsukamoto ([email protected]). For more information, candidates can visit the supervisors’ academic pages or LinkedIn profiles. This is an excellent opportunity for postdoctoral researchers interested in cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI, autonomy, and control theory, with strong international collaboration between Korea and the United States.

Postdoctoral Positions in Control Theory and AI for Human-Machine-AI Autonomy

Open postdoctoral positions are available in control theory and AI for a project on resilient human-machine-AI autonomy at the intersection of generative AI autonomy, stability/safety guarantees, adaptation, and robustness. The position is a joint collaboration between Prof. SooJean Han at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Prof. Hiroyasu Tsukamoto at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign . The selected candidate will be jointly appointed by KAIST and UIUC and based primarily in Korea. Research directions mentioned in the flyer include VLAM dynamics modeling and representation learning for robot control , stability/safety guarantees for generative AI planners , active learning for data-efficient robotic systems , and human-in-the-loop autonomy and adaptive planning under uncertainty . The role is research-focused and may include graduate student mentoring, seminars, collaboration across groups, and access to robotics platforms and computing resources where appropriate. This is a fully funded, full-time postdoctoral researcher position supported by a government-sponsored collaborative grant through December 2027 . Salary follows the grant requirements and institutional standards and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a doctoral degree and reside inside Korea for the period of appointment . Candidates from related fields are welcome to apply, especially those with backgrounds in nonlinear control, stochastic control, AI, robotics, and related mathematical methods. To apply, email a CV and a short summary of research experience and interests to the contacts listed in the post. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, with the latest indicated timing being October 2026 .
