Two research positions are open in the Hong Lab at the UK Dementia Research Institute, University College London (UCL), Queen Square Institute of Neurology, London. The programme is highly interdisciplinary and builds on recent work linking neuronal activity, B cell-derived immunoglobulins, C1q, and selective synapse loss in the adult brain. The lab is now expanding this biology to ask how pathological neural activity generates antigen-specific immune responses, what those responses recognise in the brain, and whether this mechanism can be harnessed to selectively modulate brain states. Open roles 1) Research Fellow / Postdoctoral Scientist Closing date: 14 September 2026 Reference: B02-11062 This role is aimed at an exceptional postdoc who wants intellectual and experimental ownership of a fast-moving programme. The lab is especially interested in candidates with expertise in neuroimmunology, adaptive/B cell immunology, circuit neuroscience, or related fields, and in scientists who can work across disciplines and develop new experimental approaches. 2) Research Assistant – in vivo neuroscience Closing date: 27 September 2026 Reference: B02-11139 This role is focused on the in vivo arm of the project. The ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on mouse experience and extensive experience with in vivo brain procedures/surgery, and will help execute complex experimental cohorts and generate rigorous, reproducible datasets. Both positions are based in the Hong Lab at UCL in London and are advertised for three years in the first instance.
