The Nineteenth Ischia Summer School on the History of the Life Sciences, held from 28 June to 5 July 2026, invites postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to explore the theme 'Problems of Growth.' Organized by Nick Hopwood (University of Cambridge), Christiane Groeben (Naples), Erika L. Milam (Princeton University), and Staffan Müller-Wille (University of Cambridge), the school is supported by a diverse faculty from leading institutions worldwide. The program delves into historical, philosophical, and scientific perspectives on growth, covering topics such as balanced and unbalanced growth, population studies, cancer, development, reproduction, and ecological sustainability. Lectures and seminars are designed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, with sessions prepared by faculty and student groups focusing on pre-circulated texts. The summer school is financially supported by organizations including HPS Cambridge, Intesa Sanpaolo Fund, Dohrn Foundation, George Loudon, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Science History Institute, Centro Etnografico delle Isole Campane, Center on Science and Technology at Princeton University, and the Italian Society for the History of Science. Applicants should be postgraduate students or postdoctoral fellows with a keen interest in the history of life sciences, growth, biology, medicine, or related fields.
