2 Postdoctoral Researchers in Computational Precision Nutrition

The German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke (DIfE), a member of the Leibniz Association, is advertising two postdoctoral positions in the newly established Department of Computational Precision Nutrition (CPN). The department develops methods and software for the analysis of population-level and individual-level data to support personalized health recommendations based on dietary patterns, behaviors, and diet-associated biomarkers. The research aims to advance personalized prevention and treatment of chronic diseases and to improve understanding of their underlying mechanisms. Two main methodological directions are highlighted: digital N-of-1 trials and deep learning-based modeling of multimodal biomedical data. The successful candidates will contribute to method development, data analysis, and software tools, including work on multimodal digital N-of-1 trials using patient-reported outcomes, wearables, images, and audio, as well as individual-level inference in large epidemiological studies such as EPIC-Potsdam and the German National Cohort. Tasks may also include contributing to the StudyU platform for digital N-of-1 trials, performing end-to-end analysis of omics data such as transcriptomics, epigenomics, and metabolomics, and developing clear visualizations and written summaries for scientific publications, study participants, and patients. Collaboration with clinicians, epidemiologists, and laboratory scientists is an important part of the role. The institute seeks highly motivated scientists with expertise in at least one of the following: causal inference, statistics, deep learning, or bioinformatics. Additional strengths in deep learning frameworks, R or Python programming, advanced open-source software development, and interdisciplinary communication are strongly preferred. The positions offer an international and interdisciplinary research environment, excellent working conditions, technical equipment, TV-L E13 remuneration plus annual special payment and pension scheme, family-friendly policies, jobticket support, and 30 days of vacation.
