Postdoc in Computational Biology & Machine Learning

The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is offering a postdoctoral position in Computational Biology & Machine Learning at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB). LCSB is renowned for its interdisciplinary research in systems biology and biomedicine, with a particular focus on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The centre brings together scientists from diverse fields including computer science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, engineering, and physics, fostering a collaborative environment for innovative research. The successful candidate will develop a computational platform to identify hierarchical combinations of cell fate conversion factors, aiming to engineer highly specialized neuronal cellular subtypes for cell transplantation therapies. This project integrates gene network-based approaches with advanced machine learning models to propose protocols for sequential induction of transcription factors, ultimately generating desired cell subtypes. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with Professor Stefan Stricker at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, who will lead the experimental validation of computational predictions. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, biology, or a related discipline. Essential qualifications include a strong interest in quantitative approaches to complex biological and biomedical questions, solid computational skills with experience in mathematical or network-based modeling, and a proven record of first-author publications in bioinformatics and/or computational biology. Prior experience in mathematical modeling of biological networks and fluency in English are required. The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and inclusive research environment, with staff from over 90 countries and strong links to professional sectors and the Luxembourg labour market. The position is based at the Belval Campus and is offered as a fixed-term contract for 18 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 85176 for full-time postdoctoral researchers. The university is committed to promoting equality and respect for all employees and students. To apply, candidates should submit their application online through the University of Luxembourg HR system, including a curriculum vitae, cover letter detailing motivation and alignment with the research topic, PhD diploma or expected defense date, transcript of university-level courses, and a list of publications. Early applications are encouraged as they will be processed upon reception. Applications by email will not be considered. This opportunity is ideal for researchers seeking to advance their expertise in computational biology, machine learning, and systems biomedicine within a vibrant and interdisciplinary academic setting.
