Part-time Instructor Opportunity in Medical Device Prototyping for UC Davis MEng in Medical Device Development

UC Davis Biomedical Engineering is advertising a part-time teaching opportunity for its Master of Engineering in Medical Device Development (MEng MDD) program at the Sacramento medical campus / UC Davis Tech Foundry. The role is for an instructor for the Engineering Skills sequence (MDD 421, 422, 423) , which trains a small cohort of MS students in medical device prototyping and related applied skills. The courses cover a progression of topics across medical device design, CAD, prototyping, electronics, embedded systems, manufacturing, machine learning, and regulatory biomedical context . MDD 421 focuses on foundational skills such as Python, computer-aided design, numerical simulation, modeling, finite element analysis, and design for manufacturability. MDD 422 emphasizes prototyping and manufacturing, including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and workflows for converting imaging data into anatomical models and devices. MDD 423 advances into integrated systems and emerging technologies, including embedded systems, sensors, and machine learning for medical devices. The position is embedded in a translational hub with research labs, teaching labs, startups, and proximity to the hospital, making it a strong fit for candidates interested in hands-on, project-based teaching in a biomedical engineering environment. Eligibility highlights: a master's degree in engineering or a closely related STEM field is required, along with demonstrated expertise in one or more relevant areas such as CAD, prototyping, electronics, machine learning, or medical device development. Preferred experience includes teaching/training in applied settings, industry experience in medical devices or biomedical engineering, and familiarity with interdisciplinary, project-based instruction. Funding/appointment: approximately 33% appointment per course (about 12–15 hours/week), with compensation of $10,000–$12,000 per course , commensurate with experience. Each course runs for one academic quarter (10 weeks) and may be offered in Fall, Winter, or Spring. Application window: applications are due May 16, 2026 . Interested candidates can contact Steven C. George, M.D., Ph.D. at UC Davis for questions and apply through the UC Davis recruitment portal.
