Doctoral Researcher in Human-Computer Interaction

Doctoral Researcher in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Luxembourg, within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the TruX Research Group. This is a fully funded PhD position focused on developing tools that improve end-user education and detection of AI-generated social engineering attempts, including emails, voice messages, websites, and images. The project also explores how AI can be used to create social engineering attempts, bringing together Human-Computer Interaction, human subjects research, learning and decision making, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The host group, TruX, is led by Prof. Dr. Tegawendé F. Bissyandé and works on software security, software repair, and explainable software, with application areas including FinTech, mobile and embedded systems, business and entertainment systems, and cybersecurity. The broader SnT centre is internationally recognized for secure, reliable, and trustworthy ICT systems and maintains strong research and industry connections. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Cognitive Science, Data Science, or a closely related field. A strong background in machine learning and cybersecurity is required, along with programming proficiency (for example Python). Experience or interest in phishing identification, anti-phishing training, automated phishing generation, automated software engineering, human-subject studies, statistics, data collection, annotation, or resource creation is valued. Familiarity with deep learning and NLP tools is an advantage, and applicants must meet B2-level thesis language proficiency requirements. The position is full-time for 36 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 44,531. Eligibility is restricted to applicants from EU/EEA/EFTA countries, NATO nations, NATO Indo-Pacific Partners (Australia, Japan, Republic of South Korea, New Zealand), and Ukraine.
