PhD, MS and Postdoc Openings in AI, Finance, Probabilistic AI, and Stochastic Optimization at IIIT Hyderabad
International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) is inviting applications for up to two PhD positions in the research group of Assistant Professor Tejas Bodas.

, with sample topics including optimal stopping, stochastic calculus, risk minimization, Gaussian processes, Bayesian optimization, and reinforcement learning. The broader lab/group, O.R.F.S. (Operations Research, Finance and Stochastic Optimization), also works on stochastic optimization, stochastic approximation, bandit algorithms, numerical optimization for ML, financial engineering, portfolio optimization, HFT algorithms, stochastic processes, and performance modeling.
Applicants should have a strong mathematical background. A solid foundation in probability theory is essential, and prior exposure to statistics, optimization, and machine learning is advantageous. The post mentions eligibility such as B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech from CSE or ECE, or M.Sc. in Mathematics.
Admission will be through the Standing Committee route at IIIT Hyderabad. Candidates shortlisted after initial screening may be asked to spend 3–6 months working on a research problem or internship-style project before formal admission, to assess research fit and readiness for PhD work. The Standing Committee route is also described as open to MS by Research and PhD programmes, with applications accepted throughout the year.
Funding information on the admissions page states that full-time PhD students receive scholarships with a monthly stipend between Rs. 31,000 and Rs. 35,000 depending on the stage of the program. MS and PhD students may also receive travel support for conference presentations.
