Dr. Tong Huang’s research group in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at San Diego State University (SDSU) is recruiting PhD students for a Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) with UC San Diego (UCSD), as well as partially funded MS students. The research focus areas include electric energy systems, data analytics, cyber-physical security, and modeling & control of inverter-based resource (IBR) dominated power grids. The group is well-published in top journals and has received multiple best paper awards. Students will benefit from full financial support (tuition and salary) for PhD positions, and partial funding for MS positions. There are opportunities for internships and collaborations with U.S. National Labs (PNNL, ORNL, ANL), leading universities (MIT, etc.), and electric power companies. The joint PhD diploma is issued by both SDSU and UCSD. SDSU is an R1 research university located in San Diego, California, offering excellent research, networking, and lifestyle opportunities. Eligibility requires a Master’s (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields, strong programming skills (MATLAB/Simulink, Python), and a background in electric power systems, power electronics, and control.
