Fully Funded PhD in Hydrogeology and Socio-Hydrogeology of the Senegal–Mauritanian Transboundary Basin

PhD opportunity at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Pisa, within the SOSTENERE Project. The project is titled Integrated Study of Groundwater Resources and Social Dynamics in the Senegal–Mauritanian Transboundary Basin and focuses on hydrogeology, socio-hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, isotope hydrology, groundwater monitoring and assessment, and water resources management. The successful candidate will investigate groundwater resources in the Senegal–Mauritanian Aquifer Basin, with attention to the interactions between hydrogeological processes, environmental change, and socio-economic dynamics that influence groundwater use and governance in a transboundary context. Research activities include fieldwork in BASM, collaboration with academic institutions and local stakeholders, and work at both the University of Pisa and Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD). Applicants with backgrounds in hydrogeology, environmental geochemistry, hydrochemistry, water resources management, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Experience in interdisciplinary research, participatory approaches, or international cooperation is considered an asset. This is a fully funded PhD position with scholarship funding.
