The doctoral researcher will work on methods for monitoring, assessing, and managing civil infrastructure using direct and indirect sensing, remote sensing techniques, finite element analysis, laboratory and field-based structural testing, data acquisition, damage detection, and software/application development for structural assessment. The role includes research, publication, teaching-related duties, participation in group activities, and collaboration with industry and public-sector stakeholders.
Eligibility highlights:
a master’s degree with excellent academic performance in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field; strong interest or experience in structural testing, SHM, sensing systems, signal processing, data analysis, and machine learning; excellent English communication skills; Finnish is an advantage. Applicants must satisfy Aalto’s Doctoral Programme in Engineering criteria. Final-year master’s students may apply if graduation timing is clearly stated, but the degree must be completed before the PhD contract starts.
Funding and terms:
this is a paid doctoral researcher position. The starting salary is
3143 €/month gross
, with increases over time. The initial contract is for
2 years
, with a compulsory midterm review during the second year. Preferred start date:
