Professor Wilhelm Huck at Radboud University Nijmegen is advertising two postdoctoral researcher vacancies within the European consortium PROPEL . The project aims to revolutionize sustainable bio-manufacturing by building an integrated, cost-efficient, scalable pipeline for producing protein-based materials and biocatalysts using synthetic cells . The research focuses on a design-build-test-learn workflow that combines high-throughput experiments and active learning. The team will integrate liquid handling robots and high-speed microscopy with AI and machine learning to create stable liposomes from libraries of novel phospholipids that can robustly encapsulate cell-free gene expression systems. The pipeline will then be expanded to optimize yield and robustness of the cell-free expression system. Ideal candidates should have a PhD in synthetic biology, chemical engineering, or a related discipline . Practical experience with cell-free gene expression systems and/or liposomes is preferred, along with interest in liquid handling robots, Python, and Bayesian optimization .
