Doctoral student in Surface engineering of electrodes for flow batteries at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. This PhD project sits in the third-cycle subject Chemical Science and Engineering and focuses on the development of advanced electrodes for flow batteries , a promising technology for stationary and long-duration energy storage. The research addresses a key challenge in battery performance: how electrode surface properties influence output power, conductivity, surface area, electrocatalytic activity, and chemo-mechanical stability. The project combines novel electrode surface treatment using 2D transition-metal carbides at KTH with carbon nanofiber development at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) . Experimental work will feed into a multiphysics model to predict electrode utilization, current density distribution, and power density limits. The PhD candidate will spend one year at the China-UK Low Carbon College, SJTU , making this a particularly attractive opportunity for students interested in both experimental electrochemistry and modelling. The advertised profile is aimed at candidates with a strong interest in electrochemistry and batteries , supported by a foundation in material characterization . Prior knowledge of redox flow batteries is considered an advantage. The selection process also values independence, collaboration, professionalism, and the ability to analyse complex issues. Eligibility requires a second-cycle degree such as a master's degree, or at least 240 higher education credits including 60 second-cycle credits, or equivalent knowledge.
