Postdoctoral Position in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biological Sciences at North Carolina State University

North Carolina State University’s Department of Chemistry is advertising a full-time postdoctoral position in chemistry, biochemistry, and biological sciences with Professor Yi Xiao and the Xiao Lab. The lab focuses on the isolation and characterization of nucleic acid-based recognition elements (aptamers) and their applications in biosensors and therapeutic agents . Research directions include aptamer selection for small-molecule and protein targets, development of new in vitro selection methodologies , advancement of optical and electrochemical biosensors , aptamer characterization using biophysical methods such as fluorescence assays, MST, ITC, BLI, and CD spectroscopy, as well as portable devices for on-site or point-of-care sensing. The post also mentions work on nanomaterial and organic probes for optical biosensing. Preferred candidates have experience in the aptamer field and SELEX , plus practical skills such as gel electrophoresis, PCR, DNA purification, biophysical characterization, bacteria and/or mammalian cell culture, and protein expression/purification. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, and be able to work independently with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The appointment can run for 2–4 years depending on performance. Salary is described as highly competitive and dependent on experience, publications, track record, and skills.
