Fully funded Ph.D. and M.S. positions are available in Mechanical Engineering at Northern Illinois University for students joining the Smart Energy & Thermal-Fluids (SET) Lab in Spring/Fall 2027 . The lab focuses on research in thermal-fluids , heat transfer , fluid mechanics , phase-change dynamics , two-phase cooling , and sustainable heating/cooling technologies . Specific topics include smart thermal management and predictive thermal control, boiling and evaporation, frost/ice mitigation, high-flux cooling for electronics and energy systems, and thermal-fluid modeling. Funding is described as fully funded via Graduate Research Assistantships (RA) or Graduate Teaching Assistantships (TA) , with a tuition waiver and monthly stipend . Eligibility highlights include a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Energy/Power Engineering, Materials, Chemical Engineering, or a related STEM field; a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 ; and for international applicants, TOEFL iBT 91+ (waived for U.S. citizens and eligible native English speakers).
