PhD opportunity in Frugal Innovation, Climate Resilience, and Hydroclimatic Monitoring in Africa This post announces a fully funded PhD position within the BEST – Between Earth and Sky doctoral programme , co-supervised by Zenlin Kwee (TU Delft) and Marielle Gosset (Géosciences Environnement Toulouse / Institut de Recherche pour le Développement). The project is titled “Microwaves of Resilience: Frugal Innovation for Hydroclimatic Monitoring in Africa” and sits at the intersection of economics , innovation management , technology , sustainability , and environmental science . The research explores how frugal innovation can strengthen climate resilience in the Global South, with a particular focus on hydroclimatic monitoring in Africa . It is part of an interdisciplinary doctoral community of 19 PhD projects and includes international co-supervision between Toulouse and Delft , plus mandatory programme-funded international mobility. Funding: fully funded PhD contract, starting in September 2027 . The programme is an MSCA COFUND initiative and includes training and career development support. Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent by the deadline, must not already have a doctoral degree, and must satisfy the mobility rule (no more than 12 months in France during the 36 months before the deadline). The ideal profile includes economics, technology, innovation management, or engineering with an economics focus, plus mixed-methods skills and proficiency in English and French .
