Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Plasma Catalysis and Nitric Acid Synthesis

My group at the University of Iowa is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a newly funded project on nitric acid (HNO3) synthesis through catalyzed plasma processes . The core research question is how to design plasmonic catalysts that are active, selective, and stable inside a plasma environment. The project sits in a young and fast-moving area with room to explore new ideas in plasma catalysis and electrified nitrogen chemistry. The postdoc will primarily work on plasma catalysis, but there is also room to integrate related approaches such as electrocatalysis , photocatalysis , and thermal catalysis . This makes the role attractive for candidates interested in cross-cutting catalysis research and catalyst design. Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry , chemical engineering , materials science , physics , or a related field. Hands-on experience in at least one of heterogeneous catalysis, plasmonics/nanophotonics, plasma processing, electrocatalysis, or photocatalysis is preferred. Skills in catalyst synthesis and characterization, including microscopy, XPS, and in situ/operando spectroscopy, are a plus. The position is located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States . The project is funded and ready to start, with a preference for candidates currently in the U.S. who can begin quickly.
