The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), ranked 11th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, is recruiting new faculty members in robotics. Open positions include Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor and Open-Rank Professor (tenured) in robotics, advanced manufacturing, and aeronautics/space. The department is a leader in research areas such as robotic intelligence, humanoid and surgical robotics, bio-inspired and soft robotics, wearable robotics, autonomous systems (ground/aerial), and related topics. Faculty members are expected to conduct frontier research and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as knowledge transfer and administrative service. Applicants should have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. For Assistant/Associate Professor roles, candidates should demonstrate strong research potential and an excellent research record. For Professor positions, a distinguished and sustained record of impactful research, international recognition, excellence in teaching, curriculum development, mentoring, and administrative leadership are required. The department offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes and provides a collaborative environment with state-of-the-art facilities and around 35 full-time faculty members. Research at HKU Mechanical Engineering spans advanced robotics, soft and flexible robot design, actuation, sensing and control, bio-inspired engineering, exoskeletons, biomimetic robots, and their applications in healthcare, manufacturing, and space exploration.
