ANU PhD Scholarship

ANU PhD Scholarship opportunity at The Australian National University for all fields of study. This is a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) stipend scholarship for students applying to a PhD or Professional Doctorate by Research program. The scholarship is open to both domestic and international applicants.

The scholarship provides a stipend of AUD 39,069 per annum (2026 full-time base rate), paid fortnightly, for 3.5 years. Additional support may include travel and removal allowances for students relocating to Canberra, a thesis allowance, dependant child allowance for international students, and paid medical and parental leave. Extensions may be available under the stated conditions.

Eligibility highlights include a Bachelor degree with first-class honours (some Colleges may consider upper second-class honours), or a Master degree with a research component or equivalent from a recognised university. International students must study full-time; domestic candidates may be eligible for part-time study under strict criteria. Applications must be complete at submission, including supporting documents and referee reports.

No separate scholarship application is required. Applicants must apply for admission to the relevant PhD program by the deadline, and all eligible applicants are automatically considered for the ANU PhD Scholarship. For the main round, the deadline shown in the post is 31 August 2026 for international applicants, with the following year (January through March) as the commencement window.
