About this position

DAAD’s Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) support international graduates from development and newly industrialised countries who want to pursue a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised German university. In exceptional cases, the programme can also support a doctoral degree in Germany.

The scholarship is designed for candidates from all disciplines who already have at least two years of professional experience and who can demonstrate strong academic performance, language skills, and a clear development-related motivation. The programme emphasizes social responsibility and the expectation that scholars will contribute to positive change in their home countries after completing their studies.

Funding is substantial and includes a monthly stipend of 992 euros for graduates or 1,300 euros (1,400 euros starting February 2026) for doctoral candidates, plus insurance contributions and a travel allowance. Additional support such as rent subsidies or family allowances may be available in certain cases.

Applicants must choose from the DAAD list of postgraduate courses with application deadlines for 2027/2028 and apply to the specific course/programme rather than to a single central call. The duration of funding is typically 12 to 42 months, depending on the study programme.

This opportunity is physically located in Germany and is best suited to students interested in development studies, public health, education, economics, political science, sociology, and international relations, especially those seeking a funded Master’s pathway or, in exceptional cases, doctoral study.
