About this position
DAAD is offering a Research Grant in Germany for doctoral candidates and early-career postdoctoral researchers who want to carry out a research project at a German university or research institute.
This opportunity is designed for international research mobility and supports research stays in Germany during the doctorate or in the early postdoc phase. The grant is open to applicants from many academic backgrounds, as the research area depends on the applicant’s proposed project and the fit with a German host institution.
Funding: monthly stipend of EUR 1,400, plus support for health, accident, and personal liability insurance. Additional benefits may include travel allowance, a research allowance of EUR 460 for funding periods longer than six months, possible rent subsidy, family allowance, language-course support, TestDaF/DSH fee reimbursement, and climate-friendly travel support, depending on eligibility and duration.
Eligibility highlights: doctoral applicants must be enrolled in or admitted to doctoral studies outside Germany, and their doctorate should have started no more than 3 years before the deadline. Postdoctoral applicants must have completed their doctorate no more than 4 years before the deadline. Applicants must not have lived in Germany for more than 15 months at the deadline. A scientific host in Germany is required, and the project must be discussed with that host.
Application materials include a CV, motivation letter, detailed research proposal, time schedule, proof of doctoral admission/enrolment for doctoral candidates, host confirmation, ethics/safety declaration, degree certificates, transcripts, and a recommendation letter.
Deadline: 31 August 2026. Applications are submitted through the DAAD portal.
