About this position

DAAD is offering Research Grants in Germany for international doctoral researchers and early postdoctoral researchers. This is a research stay opportunity in Germany to carry out a project at a state or state-recognised university or a non-university research institute, in agreement with a scientific supervisor in Germany.

Eligible levels: doctoral students enrolled outside Germany and postdocs up to 4 years after completing the doctorate. The programme does not support applicants doing their entire doctorate at a German university.

Funding: monthly scholarship payments of 1,400 euros, insurance contributions, and a travel allowance for stays longer than 6 months. For funding periods over 6 months, a research allowance of 460 euros is included, with possible extra support such as rent subsidy, family allowance, disability/chronic illness support, Green Mobility Top Up, and language-course-related benefits.

Language support / waiver-related benefit: DAAD may reimburse the fee for a TestDaF or DSH test under specified conditions and offers language-course support before and during the stay.

Selection criteria: academic achievements, academic progress, language skills, scholarly output after graduation where relevant, quality and feasibility of the research proposal, host institution choice, and the applicant’s motivation and career prospects.

Duration: doctoral funding is 2 to 12 months; postdoc funding is 2 to 6 months. The funding must begin in 2027.

How to apply: review the DAAD scholarship database entry and the application requirements tabs, prepare the research proposal, and arrange supervision in Germany before applying. The announcement refers applicants to the DAAD application procedure and contact tabs for full instructions.
