University of Antwerp Doctoral Scholarship

The University of Antwerp invites applications for a full-time doctoral scholarship in environmental epidemiology, focusing on the effects of climate change, ambient temperature, and air pollution on maternal and infant health. This PhD position is embedded within the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and forms part of an international research project addressing critical public health challenges.

As a doctoral researcher, you will actively prepare and defend a PhD thesis, publish scientific articles, and contribute to teaching and research support tasks within the department. The research will utilize advanced statistical and geographic information systems (GIS) methods to analyze environmental exposures and health outcomes, with a strong emphasis on methodological development and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Applicants must hold a Master degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Data Sciences, (Bio) Medical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Social Health Sciences, or Bioscience Engineering with demonstrated strong training in statistics. Students currently in their final Master's year (graduating by September 2026) are also eligible. Candidates should demonstrate excellent academic results, proficiency in English, strong writing skills, and a solid grounding in advanced statistical and GIS methods. Organizational skills, teamwork, and alignment with the University of Antwerp’s educational and research vision are essential.

The scholarship is offered for two years, with the possibility of renewal for another two years following a positive evaluation. The monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to university rates. Additional benefits include ecocheques, internet-connectivity allowance, bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting, and access to a wide range of courses and educational credit through the Antwerp Doctoral School. The main workplace will be Campus Drie Eiken, providing a dynamic and stimulating environment.
