About this position
GreenHer Centre of Excellence and the University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty are inviting applications for a fully funded four-year PhD position in Wooden Built Heritage Conservation.
The doctoral researcher will work on the sustainable preservation of built wooden cultural heritage, with a strong focus on traditional methods and their scientific evaluation. Research themes include timber selection and logging, wood processing and protection, craftsmanship and construction, and climate-change adaptation.
The project combines wood science, heritage science, materials science, environmental science, and conservation-oriented research. The successful candidate will document traditional craft practices, assess sustainability, moisture performance, weathering resistance, and relevance under changing climatic conditions, and develop practical recommendations that connect traditional knowledge with modern conservation approaches.
In addition to the research work, the PhD researcher will contribute to experimental planning, data analysis, scientific and professional publications, and national/international research proposals. The position is based at the GreenHer Unit, University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty, and the degree is awarded by the University of Ljubljana.
Eligibility: applicants may hold a master’s degree in engineering or technical sciences, natural sciences, heritage science, social sciences, or the humanities.
Funding: 100% funded, including tuition fees, plus a budget for travel and research consumables.
