Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship (GEMS)

Applications are open for the Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship (GEMS) 2026 at Monash University Malaysia. This is a fully funded PhD scholarship designed for Malaysian and international students who want to pursue research in a world-class environment with international mobility.

The scholarship supports research across several broad areas, including Arts and Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Engineering, Information Technology, Medicine and Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Science. Successful candidates join a specific GEMS research topic and work with a main supervisor on a relevant research proposal.

Funding includes a monthly stipend of RM 2,950 while studying in Malaysia, a higher stipend of up to RM 8,500 per month during mobility in Australia, and RM 2,950 per month during mobility in Indonesia or India. The award also provides a 100% tuition fee waiver, a one-time RM 9,000 grant for visa, insurance, and travel, and possible additional support for conferences, fieldwork, or research activities. The duration is 42 months (3.5 years), with up to 9 months of mobility abroad.

Eligibility highlights include a First Class Honours degree (H1) or equivalent, meeting Monash University’s academic and English language requirements, selecting only one GEMS research topic, and preparing a strong research proposal. Applicants should be ready to start in 2026 and complete the required academic or research support work.
