About this position
PhD scholarship opportunity in Hepatitis C vaccine development at the University of Adelaide, based within the Adelaide RNA Innovation Hub. This project focuses on immunology, vaccinology, and next-generation mRNA vaccine technologies to address the challenge of developing a broadly protective vaccine against hepatitis C virus (HCV).
The student will investigate how antigen structure, multivalent display, and vaccination strategies influence the breadth, quality, and durability of antiviral antibody responses. The work combines fundamental and translational immunology with mRNA vaccine engineering and uses advanced models including humanised pre-clinical models, human tonsil organoids, and diverse HCV neutralisation systems.
This is a fully funded PhD scholarship supported by a funded NHMRC Ideas Grant. The project is part of an international collaborative network involving researchers at UNSW and the University of Copenhagen.
Applicants should have a strong demonstrated background in immunology; substantial undergraduate and/or postgraduate training and research experience in immunology is essential. Experience in virology, vaccinology, molecular biology, or RNA technologies would be an advantage.
Expressions of interest open on 31 August 2026 and close on 30 September 2026. Interested candidates should contact [email protected] or [email protected] for further information.
