About this position

KU Leuven’s Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP) is offering a full-time PhD fellowship in intellectual property law within the internally funded C2 project Technological Intermediation and Consumerization of Human Creativity.

The project sits at the intersection of EU law, copyright, consumer law, competition law, and broader technology law themes, with CiTiP’s wider research environment covering ICT, digital media, ethics, privacy, cybersecurity, and data regulation. The doctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Thomas Margoni, Kasper Drazewski, and Devroe, contribute to the centre’s academic life, and develop a doctoral proposal.

Applicants should hold a master’s degree in Law, preferably with specialization in intellectual property, consumer law, or competition law. A strong background in EU law is required. Knowledge of intellectual property, consumer law, and/or competition law is a plus, as are strong communication skills, project experience, grant-writing potential, and familiarity with empirical, comparative, or computational methods. Excellent English is required; Dutch is an advantage.

The fellowship is internally funded and offered for one year initially, with a realistic possibility of extension to the full doctoral period at KU Leuven (four years). The package includes staff-like salary scale 43 and standard KU Leuven benefits.

Location: Leuven, Belgium. Deadline: 9 September 2026 at 23:59 CET. Apply via the KU Leuven online application portal.
