About this position

PhD opportunity in Agribusiness and Sustainability at the University of Évora in Portugal, hosted at MED and linked to the Water4all project (Horizon Europe). The research topic is “Valuing Mediterranean Riparian Forests: An Integrated Decision-Based Framework for Territorial Management”, combining agribusiness, sustainability, geography, GIS, environmental economics, and spatial decision support.

The project is designed as a doctoral track leading to a thesis and four scientific articles. The work integrates ecological, economic, social, and spatial dimensions to support restoration and conservation of riparian corridors in agricultural landscapes. Planned methods include meta-regression for economic valuation, stakeholder surveys and interviews with farmers, econometric analysis of willingness to accept, GIS-based multi-criteria and network analysis, and cost-benefit integration for restoration planning.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in geography is required. Strong knowledge of connectivity metrics applied to river connectivity is especially relevant. Experience with GIS applications and landscape architecture is valued. Candidates must also meet the scholarship enrolment conditions described in the call.

Funding: partial funding via an FCT/University of Évora research scholarship, with a monthly allowance of €1,359.64. The scholarship starts in December 2026, initially for 12 months and renewable up to 48 months.

Deadline: 2026-11-05. Applications are submitted by email to [email protected] with a CV, qualification certificate, and supporting documents. The official application portal is the ERA Talent Platform, and the Euraxess vacancy should be checked for updates.
