NCN SONATA BIS

PhD scholarship opportunity in 2D materials, semiconductors, nanomaterials, and materials science at Warsaw University of Technology (Faculty of Physics, Poland). The project is an NCN SONATA BIS-funded doctoral position focused on the epitaxial growth of layered 2D materials and the integration of 2D/3D semiconductor systems.

The research topic includes graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), thin-film fabrication using MOCVD, and structural, optical, and electrical characterization. The project aims to build scientific and technological foundations for next-generation semiconductor technologies and advanced electronics.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field; documented laboratory experience; basic knowledge of thin-film growth and characterization; familiarity with tools such as AFM, optical microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy; and strong English communication skills for presentations and scientific writing.

Funding: fully funded PhD scholarship with a stipend of PLN 5,000/month for the first 24 months and PLN 6,500/month after mid-term evaluation for the remaining 24 months. Project duration: 2026–2030.
