PhD Scholarship at the Department of Communication, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Denmark.

This fully funded three-year PhD position is part of the Forgetting Secrecy? Reconfiguring forgetting and secrecy in an age of AI (ForSe) project, funded by the Carlsberg Foundation (Semper Ardens Accelerate) and led by Associate Professor Sille Obelitz Søe. The project examines how artificial intelligence changes the conditions for forgetting, secrecy, privacy, and personhood, with a strong philosophical, conceptual, and ethical focus.

The successful PhD student will work across the project’s work packages and is expected to develop an independent original project related to AI, secrecy, forgetting, and intelligence practices. The position is based in an internationally oriented interdisciplinary environment at the Section for Information, Technology, and Connections (INTER).

Relevant backgrounds include philosophy, philosophy of technology, philosophy of information, information ethics, intelligence studies, information studies, or related disciplines. Applicants must have master’s-level qualifications related to the topic, and strong academic English skills are required. The PhD student is expected to publish scientific articles and contribute to project activities and research events.

Funding includes a salary starting at approximately DKK 31,800 per month plus an 18.07% pension contribution. The appointment also includes departmental duties equivalent to 840 working hours over the three-year period.

Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to master’s level related to the subject area of the project, such as philosophy, philosophy of technology, philosophy of information, information ethics, intelligence studies, information studies, or related disciplines. If educated outside Denmark, applicants must have a master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree, or at minimum a bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor’s degree and be assessed as having professional qualifications at master's level. Strong written and spoken academic English is required, and the department may request documentation of English skills. Applicants must submit a CV, cover letter, diplomas/transcripts, grading scale description, a project abstract, and a project description.
