About this position

La Trobe University’s Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS) is offering a PhD scholarship within the Interconnect Health Research project, focused on the health and wellbeing of people with innate variations of sex characteristics (IVSCs). The project is part of a national consortium and will contribute new knowledge on health outcomes, service experiences, and the social factors that shape wellbeing for adolescents and adults with IVSCs in Australia.

The PhD will be based at ARCSHS, La Trobe University, and will involve original research that complements the Interconnect project. Possible research directions include mental health and wellbeing outcomes, risk and protective factors, health service experiences and preferences, and experiences of discrimination, harassment, or abuse. The scholarship is especially relevant for candidates with interests in public health, sociology, psychology, health promotion, policy, systems science, or related fields, and with experience in quantitative research.

Funding includes a $36,000 per annum stipend (2026 full-time rate) for 3.5 years, plus a tuition fee scholarship for four years and allowances. The expected commencement is March 2026 or later by negotiation.

Supervision will be provided by researchers from Interconnect, including Dr Natalie Amos, Professor Ashleigh Lin, and Dr Jordan Hinton. Interested applicants should prepare a CV and cover letter describing their research interests, experience, and fit for the project, and contact Dr Natalie Amos at the email provided. The post links to the scholarship information and application process for further details.
