About this position
This PhD scholarship at the University of Sydney offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of advanced hydrogen storage systems for clean energy applications. With the urgent global need for effective energy storage to support renewable energy deployment and decarbonization, this project aims to create a novel class of hydrogen materials for modern storage systems and fuel cells. The research will be conducted within the School of Chemistry, ranked among the top 20 worldwide, and involves a multidisciplinary team working at the forefront of energy technologies.
Successful candidates will join a world-class research group led by Professor Francois Aguey-Zinsou, focusing on applied chemistry, industrial chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, energy technologies, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, metallurgy, and solid state physics. The project is highly topical, addressing the challenges of clean and efficient energy technologies and the large-scale implementation of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
Applicants should be highly motivated and possess a first class BSc Honours degree with a high grade (>85%) or an equivalent Master degree (>85%) in chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry, preparation of inorganic nanoparticles, or related fields including chemical and mechanical engineering. Consideration will also be given to those without an Honours degree but with at least one year of research experience. The scholarship is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and international students with a Master degree from a reputable university (top 400 globally). English language proficiency tests are required if applicable.
The scholarship covers tuition and stipend for eligible candidates, though specific funding details are not provided. Applications are accepted year-round, offering flexibility for prospective students. To apply, send your CV, academic transcripts, English test results (if applicable), and details of 2-3 references by email to Professor Francois Aguey-Zinsou at [email protected]. For more information about the research group, visit www.merlin-H2.com.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in cutting-edge research in hydrogen storage, clean energy, and advanced materials, and who wish to work in a collaborative and innovative environment at a leading global institution.
