About this position

Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) is offering three-year PhD studentships in Business and Management, with funding available through the ESRC North West Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP) and LUMS-funded studentships. These are full-time doctoral opportunities for highly motivated candidates who want to develop advanced research expertise in a world-ranked management school with a strong international research community.

The available PhD pathways include Management (Entrepreneurship and Strategy), Management (Organisation, Work and Technology), Management Science, and Marketing. The studentships are designed for applicants whose research proposals align with the interests of the relevant department and contribute to LUMS’s research reputation. The school emphasises advanced research training, participation in the wider research community, and high-quality supervision by internationally recognised academics.

LUMS highlights its strong research environment, quadruple accreditation, and excellent REF 2021 performance, including first for Research Power and joint-first for research environment. PhD graduates go on to academic, research, and consultancy roles internationally. Successful students join an international community of researchers and students from more than 180 countries.

Funding is generous and includes a living allowance plus a fee waiver for three years. Fully funded studentships are available for UK, EU, and Overseas students. Applicants should have an excellent first degree and outstanding Masters-level performance in a related discipline. The programme is scheduled to commence in October 2027.

The main application deadline is Monday 11 January 2027, with ESRC scholarship and LUMS scholarship deadlines also noted later in the cycle. Applicants are encouraged to submit as early as possible to ensure their application is processed in time for funding consideration. An online information session is also advertised for prospective students interested in learning more about the programme, funding, and living in Lancaster.
