About this position

The Rheumatology Service at the Hospital das Clínicas, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). This opportunity is part of the thematic project "Strategies for Preventing Infections, Mechanisms and Factors That Influence the Response to Interventions in Patients with Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases." The project addresses critical gaps in understanding infection susceptibility, vaccine response, and prophylactic strategies in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD).

Acute and chronic infections are major causes of morbidity and mortality in ARD patients. The research group has contributed significantly to international studies on immunization and infection outcomes in this population. Despite advances, questions remain about the mechanisms of humoral, cellular, and innate immunity, the duration of vaccine protection, and the impact of disease activity and immunosuppressive therapies on vaccine efficacy. The project also explores innovative approaches to diagnostics, prophylactic treatments, and immunity assessments for vaccines not yet included in national immunization programs.

The fellowship is for exclusive dedication (40 hours/week) over 36 months, with a monthly stipend of R$12,570.00, technical reserve, installation assistance for those relocating, maternity/paternity leave, and reimbursement of social security contributions. The position is based in São Paulo, Brazil, at the University of São Paulo's Rheumatology Division.

The fellow will integrate and plan subprojects, develop REDCap forms, manage ethical-regulatory processes, and recruit participants. Responsibilities include applying informed consent/assent forms, executing clinical interventions, using validated instruments, organizing data, ensuring quality control, supporting statistical analyses, and collaborating on scientific reports, articles, and conference presentations.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field and a PhD obtained within the last 7 years. Advanced English proficiency is required, with strong skills in critical reading, scientific writing, and academic communication. Experience with relevant research techniques is preferred. To apply, candidates should email Profs. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá and Clovis Artur Almeida da Silva at [email protected], submitting a CV, cover letter, and two letters of recommendation by 15 May 2026. Selected candidates will be invited for a face-to-face interview.

For further details, visit the FAPESP project page and the University of São Paulo website. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful research that may shape future clinical guidelines and improve outcomes for patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
