About this position

The Gene Regulatory Control in Disease Laboratory at the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS), University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Fellow position funded by the MSCA TALENTGAL programme. The lab, led by Dr Ashwin Woodhoo, investigates the mechanistic basis of gene expression control in both developmental and pathological contexts, with a particular focus on nerve disorders and myelination.

This multidisciplinary team employs experimental and computational approaches to study multiple layers of gene expression regulation, including transcriptional, translational, and post-translational mechanisms. The research is supported by prestigious funding sources, including an ERC Consolidator Grant, the Spanish Ministry of Science, and private foundations such as AECC.

The project, MyeRIBO, explores the role of specialized ribosomes in the regulation of the proteome of myelinating glial cells during myelination and nerve repair. The successful candidate will use advanced techniques such as cryo-EM, quantitative proteomics, genome-wide ribosome profiling, and genetic mouse models to uncover how ribosome heterogeneity influences selective mRNA translation and myelination. This research aims to advance our understanding of neural development and myelin disorders, with potential implications for diseases like multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuropathy, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

The fellowship offers a competitive salary package: €4,806.67/month (including employer costs, income tax, and social security), a mobility allowance of €500/month, a family allowance of €300/month (if eligible), a one-time relocation allowance of €2,000, research costs of €300/month, conference funding (€1,900 per conference, minimum 2, maximum 5), and secondment funding up to €2,000/month (1–3 months). The position is full-time (35 hours/week) and will start on March 1, 2027.

Eligibility requirements include the MSCA mobility rule (no more than 12 months in Spain in the last 36 months), a doctoral degree obtained within the last eight years (with exceptions for documented career breaks), and at least two peer-reviewed publications (one as first or corresponding author). Excellent English proficiency and research experience in neurobiology, biology, or related fields are required.

To apply, send your CV and a motivation letter to Dr Ashwin Woodhoo at [email protected] by April 30, 2026, indicating 'REF: MSCA TALENTGAL fellowship' in the subject line. For more information about the lab, visit the group website. The full position description is available on Euraxess.
