About this position

The Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde da Universidade do Porto (i3S), Porto, Portugal, is advertising a research fellowship within the Horizon Europe project CARE-IN-HEALTH (CArdiovascular REsolution of INflammation to promote HEALTH).

The project focuses on identifying the molecular profile of chronic inflammation linked to cardiovascular disease and its resolution, with the broader goal of supporting new measures and tools for healthcare systems and citizens to maintain health and well-being. The fellowship is embedded in a highly relevant translational research context combining analytical chemistry, biosensor development, and clinical sample analysis.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of analytical methodologies, including the functionalization and testing of biosensors, as well as handling, processing, and analysing clinical samples. The scientific area includes Analytical Chemistry, with related eligibility in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, and other related fields.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD obtained in the last three years, have proven experience in electrochemical sensor development and application, and be available to start immediately. Preference is given to candidates with experience in biosensor technologies, aptamer development, quantitative molecular analysis of biological samples, publication/patent activity, and participation in competitive research projects. Strong English communication skills and teamwork ability are also expected.

The fellowship lasts 12 months, with the possibility of renewal, and offers a monthly maintenance stipend of €1,901.00 according to the FCT table. Additional components such as voluntary social insurance may be included under the applicable fellowship statute.

The work will be hosted at i3S in Porto under the scientific coordination of Inês Mendes Pinto. The evaluation is based on curriculum assessment and motivation letter, with the possibility of interview for top-ranked candidates. Applications are open from 22 July 2026 to 4 August 2026 and must be submitted online via the i3S application portal.
