The fellowship is hosted by the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Algarve, in Faro. The work focuses on developing and validating statistical and machine learning methods for analysing water consumption data, identifying consumption patterns, detecting anomalies and water losses, and forecasting demand. The broader goal is to support intelligent tools for the sustainable management of water resources.

The position is in the scientific area of Mathematics and is aimed at candidates holding a doctoral degree, preferably with training in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. The announcement highlights valued experience in computational statistics, machine learning, R and/or Python programming, methodological development, and advanced algorithm implementation.

The fellowship lasts 12 months, with a planned start in January 2027, and may be renewed up to 1 September 2029 depending on regulations and project conditions. The monthly maintenance allowance is €1901.00, paid by bank transfer.

Scientific supervision will be provided by Professor Clara Maria Henrique Cordeiro. The application evaluation board also includes Luís Miguel de Amorim Ferreira Fernandes Nunes, Helder Aniceto Amadeu de Sousa Daniel, and Celestino António Maduro Coelho.
