Workday AI Research PhD Fellowship

Workday is inviting applications for the Workday AI Research PhD Fellowship, a research-focused opportunity for doctoral students working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, enterprise software, and applied research at scale.

The fellowship is designed for PhD students in year 3 or beyond who have a faculty advisor willing to co-engage with a Workday AI researcher on a shared research problem. Fellows remain at their home university while collaborating directly with Workday AI researchers on problems relevant to enterprise systems used by tens of thousands of organizations and hundreds of millions of workers.

Research areas highlighted in the call include Ethical and Responsible AI, Human-Agentic Workforce Co-optimization, Data Integration and Semantic Data Modeling, Business and Agentic Process Automation, and Enterprise AI Evaluation and Benchmarking.

Funding: $50,000 per year for up to 2 years ($100,000 total), provided as an unrestricted fellowship gift to the student’s faculty advisor to support the student. The program also offers a dedicated Workday AI Research mentor, an optional 12-week paid summer internship, and an early path to full-time AI roles at Workday.

Eligibility: PhD enrollment at an accredited university, year 3 or later, plus a faculty advisor who will co-engage on the research proposal. Students of all nationalities and citizenship statuses may apply.
