About this position

The LOEWE Center "Dynamics of Religion: Ambivalent Neighbourhoods between Judaism, Christianity and Islam in Historical and Contemporary Constellations" is offering 10 postdoctoral positions at Goethe University Frankfurt, in collaboration with Philipps University Marburg and Justus Liebig University Giessen. Funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art, and Culture, the center focuses on interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences, exploring the complex religious, cultural, and political-social dynamics between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam from historical and contemporary perspectives.

The positions are available from January 1, 2026, or later, for a fixed term until December 31, 2029. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, involving five program areas and 31 subprojects, covering topics such as religious philosophy, interreligious relations, migration, education, digital humanities, archaeology, anthropology, and more. Supervisors include leading academics such as Prof. Christian Wiese, Prof. Armina Omerika, and Prof. Antje Röder, among others.

Applicants should have an excellent doctorate in a relevant field (e.g., religious studies, Judaic studies, Islamic studies, theology, history, philosophy, archaeology, anthropology, sociology, education), strong research skills, and a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration. Excellent English and good to very good German skills (or willingness to acquire them) are required. Experience with digital methods and project management is advantageous. The positions are full-time (E13 TV-G-U, 100%) and offer a salary according to the German public sector pay scale, with social benefits. The center provides opportunities for further academic qualification, including habilitation or monograph publication, and offers a supportive, international research environment with mentoring and networking opportunities.

To apply, submit your application documents in a single PDF by email to [email protected] by January 9, 2026. For detailed information on subprojects and requirements, visit the project website. For questions, contact Prof. Christian Wiese or Prof. Armina Omerika.
