About this position
4-year Postdoc position at the University of Twente, Netherlands in 3D printing of polymer foams for drones, with a focus on resin formulation, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, and related fluid mechanics / soft matter topics.
This postdoctoral project is part of a NWO-KIC grant titled Materials for defense. The research aims to develop fluidic and chemical routes for a new generation of porous, graded, and composite materials using Direct Bubble Writing, a novel additive manufacturing process for polymer foams invented and patented by the University of Twente.
The successful candidate will lead the formulation challenges of foam printing resins, with emphasis on enabling stiff, light, and damping parts with minimal post-processing. The role is specifically about formulating resins rather than synthesis. Useful background includes photo-curable systems, resin formulation, fluid mechanics, and/or soft matter.
The project is highly collaborative and involves interaction with ten partners, including Dutch research institutes (NLR and MARIN), the Ministry of Defense, and industry partners working on chemistry, printing methods, composites, and drone applications. In the final stage, printed materials will be tested in unmanned airborne and seaborne vehicles.
The position is hosted at the University of Twente and starts on 1 Jan 2027 or as soon as possible after that date. Deadline: 31 Oct 2026. Apply through the AcademicTransfer vacancy page.
