About this position
Ghent University is recruiting for an Assistant department of Bioanalysis (PK-PD) position in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department FW03 - Bio-analysis. This is a PhD-oriented appointment in Belgium, with at least 70% of the assignment devoted to scientific research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation.
The project sits in the field of quantitative pharmacology and focuses on predicting how changes in disease state affect the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) of drugs. The successful candidate will develop and apply PK-PD models informed by in vitro and/or clinical data. The role also includes teaching support in courses such as Bio-analytisch practicum, Pharmacokinetics, and PK-PD in Drug Development, plus supervision of Master’s thesis students and assistance with departmental services.
This opportunity is well suited to candidates with a strong interest in drug development, pharmacometrics, pharmacotherapy, statistical analysis, and pharmacological modeling. Experience with R, Simcyp, Monolix, or analytical laboratory techniques is advantageous. The post requires a Master’s degree in areas such as Drug Development, Pharmacometrics, Pharmaceutical Care, Bioscience Engineering, or Medicine. Applicants should also have sufficient Dutch and English to support academic teaching and communicate research findings.

For degrees awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have an interest in scientific research and pharmacotherapy; experience in drug research and/or clinical experience with optimizing medication use is an asset. Knowledge of statistical data analysis and pharmacological modeling is expected, with R and/or specialized PK-PD software such as Simcyp or Monolix considered a plus. Practical experience with analytical laboratory techniques is also a plus. Sufficient knowledge of Dutch and English is required to support teaching and communicate research findings. Candidates should have social skills, flexibility, critical thinking, didactic and communicative skills; teaching experience and participation in continuing education or conferences are considered an asset.
