About this position
Karolinska Institutet is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology or Biostatistics at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) in Solna, Sweden.
This is a six-year early-career faculty position designed for outstanding researchers who can develop an independent research group, contribute to teaching, and strengthen the department’s academic environment. The role is broadly open within epidemiology and biostatistics, with MEB highlighting strengths in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaceutical, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, as well as causal inference, clinical trials, registry-based research, twin and family studies, predictive modeling, image analysis, survival analysis, statistical genetics, and high-throughput data analysis.
The position comes with a generous SEK 9 million funding package to cover salary and research costs. KI also notes the possibility of promotion from the fixed-term assistant professor role to permanent Senior Lecturer, subject to the university’s procedures and performance.
Eligibility includes a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area, at least two peer-reviewed original publications as first or last author beyond the thesis, and strong scientific merit. Preference is given to candidates who earned their doctorate within the last seven years, although exceptions may apply for documented deductible time. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong research plan, academic leadership potential, and fluency in spoken and written English.
The application must be submitted in English through KI’s Varbi recruitment system by 31 August 2026. Required documents include a personal letter, the application form with research project, up to ten published papers and optionally one manuscript, and a PhD certificate. If claiming deductible time, supporting documentation must be attached.
