About this position

Boston College’s Lynch School of Education and Human Development is seeking a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor of Special Education in the Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Society.

The position is centered on special education, with emphasis on teaching and research at the elementary and/or secondary level. The department is especially interested in candidates whose work connects special education with literacy instruction (reading, writing), content-area learning (English language arts, history, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics), assessment, transition, or teacher education. Interdisciplinary perspectives are welcomed, including work on disability and multilingualism, disability and historically marginalized populations, and disability studies perspectives.

The successful candidate will contribute to a strong research agenda, teach across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, advise and mentor students, collaborate on program development, and provide service to the department, school, and university. Experience preparing K-12 special education teachers is desired, and the post highlights a commitment to social justice and diversity in educator preparation.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field, and should have experience in K-12 inclusive special education. The announcement also seeks evidence of research productivity, potential to secure funded research, and the ability to communicate scholarship to broader publics.

This is a faculty hiring opportunity at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, United States. The expected 9-month base salary range is $130,000–$135,000 (paid over 12 months). No student stipend or scholarship funding is mentioned because this is a faculty position, not a student opening.

Application process: submit a CV, a letter of interest that includes teaching interests, and the names of three recommenders via Interfolio. Review of applications begins 2026-10-01 and continues until the position is filled.
